We tape off the surrounding paint, then wet-sand the lens through progressive grits — starting coarse enough to cut past the oxidized layer and the failed factory coating, then stepping finer to remove the scratch pattern from the previous grit. Skipping grits is the most common reason a DIY kit leaves the lens looking cloudy.

After sanding, the lens is machine-polished back to optical clarity. Finally we apply a fresh UV-resistant sealant. That last step is what separates a restoration that lasts from one that yellows again in a few months — polishing alone leaves bare, unprotected polycarbonate exposed to full Gulf Coast sun.

Lenses that are yellowed or hazy on the outside restore extremely well. Lenses that have hairline cracking through the plastic, internal moisture, or delamination on the inside surface cannot be corrected from the outside — we will tell you that before starting rather than charging for a partial result.

Reapply protection roughly annually in this climate, and avoid abrasive glass or wheel cleaners on the lenses. If the vehicle parks outside facing south all day, expect the coating to wear faster than a garage-kept car — that is normal, and it is why we recommend refreshing rather than waiting for the yellow to come back.
